Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian is set to sign a one-year extension with Liverpool, while youth academy goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher will be allowed to leave the club on loan, according to Simon Jones.

Adrian to Sign New Liverpool Deal

Kelleher to Leave the Club on Loan

Adrian had been subject to interest from Real Betis but wants to commit his future to Liverpool. The club is now willing to offer him a new deal and assurance that he will be the second choice keeper at the club with the decision to allow Kelleher to leave the club for a loan spell.

Adrian signed for Liverpool in 2019 on a free transfer from West Ham after spending six seasons in London and being a mainstay in The Hammers’ side for much of his time there. He has made multiple high-profile errors which have caused a lack of confidence among Liverpool fans in the 34-year-old’s ability over his two seasons at the club.

The Spaniard fell down the pecking order at Anfield, losing his place as second in line to Alisson after the emergence of Irish international Kelleher – who started several games for Liverpool this season in the Premier League, Champions League, and both English domestic cups.

Kelleher had a run of games in December which assured fans that Adrian was no longer the reserve goalkeeper. After some impressive displays during Alisson’s injury spell, the club recognise that Kelleher needs first-team action to develop and has decided his best opportunity to do so is a period on loan for another side.

Loris Karius still has a contract with Liverpool until 2022 and is currently on loan at Union Berlin. Stuttgart are reportedly interested in signing the German, which means there will likely be no senior goalkeepers at the club outside of Alisson and Adrian next season.
