Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with Fabio Paratici to become the new director of football at the club, according to Fabrizio Romano. Paratici was most recently the chief football officer at Juventus until he left his role on May 26, 2021. The news comes following reports that former Juventus manager Antonio Conte is in advanced talks to become the new Tottenham manager.
Tottenham Hotspur in Fabio Paratici Talks
Who is Fabio Paratici?
Paratici was appointed as the technical area coordinator at Juventus in May 2010. In November 2018, he was promoted to the position of chief football officer. He was appointed by the new president Andrea Agnelli, who also recently left his role to become the vice-chairman of the controversial European Super League.
Paratici oversaw a golden period in Juventus’ history as the club won nine successive Serie A titles. He also oversaw the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo during his time at the club. After a disappointing season, where Juventus only just secured Champions League football, he decided not to renew his contract.
In a club statement, Paratici said: “They were wonderful years of professional growth and strong emotions. Juventus gave me the opportunity to carry out my work with full freedom and without interference in full respect of my role. For this I would like to thank the whole club, my staff, the employees, co-workers, the players, the coaches, the shareholders, and in particular, the President, Andrea Agnelli. An important chapter of my career closes, as I await new challenges.”
As a director of football, Paratici would act as an intermediary between the manager and the Tottenham board. He would handle issues off the pitch, so the manager can focus more on his tactics. For example, a director of football might handle incoming transfers at the club. Whether Paratici can convince Harry Kane to stay is another problem though.
Paratici and Conte to Reunite at Spurs?
Paratici is set to respond to Tottenham’s offer in the next few days. There seems to be a growing possibility that he will link up with Antonio Conte again. Conte is now in advanced talks with Tottenham over the vacant manager position.
Paratici and Conte worked together at Juventus, during Conte’s spell as manager between 2011 and 2014. Conte won the first three Serie A titles of their dominant spell, as well as two Italian Supercups. The two are renowned for winning trophies, so the anticipation of their arrivals is likely to sit well with Spurs fans. Alternatively, Paratici could link up with Mauricio Pochettino, who is also hotly tipped with a return to Spurs.
