After Jose Mourinho’s failed attempt to win a trophy while being the Tottenham Hotspur manager, Spurs are once again looking for a new head coach. A dramatic Mauricio Pochettino return has been rumoured, but another intriguing prospect is former Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte, who recently left the Italian side despite having just led them to their first Serie A title in 11 years. The Telegraph report that Spurs are considering a move for the Italian manager, while the Guardian say he would be interested in the opportunity.
Antonio Conte Considering Job as Tottenham Hotspur Manager
Conte an Interesting Option for Spurs
Having just led Inter Milan to their first league title in 11 years, many were shocked when the news broke that Conte was set to leave the former European giants. However, it appears that he had a strong disagreement with the club’s board over their future, prompting him to tender his resignation less than a month after his Serie A triumph.
Tottenham will certainly be monitoring his situation closely now, especially considering his history. The former manager of the Italian national team was also the boss at Chelsea for two years, winning the Premier League and FA Cup while there. This experience in the English top-flight, alongside his various other titles elsewhere, would be invaluable for Spurs, who are without a major trophy in almost 5,000 days and have not been champions of England for over 60 years.
Despite this, the North London side’s last manager, Mourinho, was also labelled a “serial winner”, and yet he was unable to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with any tangible success. This shows that a manager who has won it all does not guarantee titles for Spurs, but Conte’s experience may be able to nudge them over the line in ending their trophy drought.
