Eintracht Frankfurt Confirm Oliver Glasner Appointment

Oliver Glasner

Eintracht Frankfurt have announced Oliver Glasner will take over as the club’s new head coach.

The Austrian will leave Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg to take the reins. He has signed a three-year deal which runs until the summer of 2024.

Glasner exits Wolfsburg after two years in charge. In that time, he guided them to fourth place and a return to the Champions League next season.

Eintracht Frankfurt Confirm Oliver Glasner Will Become New Head Coach

Glasner Replaces Borussia Monchengladbach Bound Adi Hutter

The 46 year-old coach has impressed since arriving in the Bundesliga in 2019. He took over Wolfsburg and guided them to a top six finish in his first season in charge. Glasner went one step better this season- guiding them to a top four finish and Champions League football. The Wolves sat in the top four for much of the season and ended up finishing a point clear of Eintracht Frankfurt who finished fifth.

While it may come as a surprise that Glasner chose to leave Wolfsburg, a strained relationship with the hierarchy ultimately led to his decision. Despite his terrific achievements, he has decided to call time on two years with Wolfsburg. He built a solid team which scored goals and played some excellent football.

Eintracht Frankfurt will get the same treatment as they gear up for life without Adi Hutter. The club have been searching for a replacement since Hutter confirmed he was joining Borussia Monchengladbach. An extensive search took place with Glasner in their list of targets. They have been successful in their pursuit and Glasner will try to deliver what he did at Wolfsburg.

Frankfurt came so close to a finish in the top four but fell away at the end of the season. They will compete in the Europa League next season and now Glasner will assess the squad and add to it in the coming months.

Glasner’s Switch to Eintracht Frankfurt Continues the Crazy Bundesliga Managerial Merry-go Round

Oliver Glasner moving across Bundesliga teams means seven of this season’s top eight will start next season with a new manager. The only exception being Urs Fischer at Union Berlin who is very much safe in his role after guiding the capital club to a spot in Europe.

While this is mainly down to the clubs picking managers from direct rivals, it is still a crazy amount of changes. Seven of the top eight as well as Koln if they survive the Bundesliga play-off, will have new coaches. It sets up the 2021/22 Bundesliga brilliantly with the division blown wide open.

Wolfsburg’s hunt to replace Oliver Glasner has already begun as they gear up for their Champions League return. Former PSV Head Coach and Bundesliga midfielder Mark Van Bommel is the favourite to replace Glasner.
