Spurs Will Fall Apart Then Rebuild if Harry Kane Leaves Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane leaves Tottenham Hotspur

If Harry Kane leaves Tottenham Hotspur this summer, it will require a monumental fee that could help to start the club’s “painful build” in earnest.

Lilywhites Can Build Back Stronger if Harry Kane Leaves Tottenham Hotspur

End of Kane’s Spurs Career is Not the End of the Club

Jermaine Jenas said: “If he [Daniel Levy] sells Harry Kane – the stock of the football club, the look of the football club, they’ve lost the England captain, they’ve got no manager, they’ve got disgruntled players – what happens then to Son Heung-Min and a core group of players that have been successful at the football club? The whole thing falls apart and who holds that together?”

The fear of losing Kane is worse than losing the player, especially if the price tag is over the £100m mark.

A key concern is what knock-on effect Kane’s departure has on the squad. After all, there a number of other players, such as Son Heung-Min and Toby Alderweireld who are easily capable of playing for top sides in Europe.

But again, depending on the contract lengths of these players, they would also fetch large transfer fees.

If this transfer money is reinvested wisely then Spurs can build a young exciting squad with an attacking emphasis for years to come.

The State of the Tottenham Core

Spurs have come tantalising close to winning multiple trophies and even a Premier League title in the last 5 years. Frustratingly, on the day, performances have not been good enough to really make a stand for a trophy, hence the 13 year wait for a trophy going on.

Throughout the last decade or so, there has been constant criticism of the weak mentality that plagues the squad. More recently that has again surfaced, especially in the latter half of Mauricio Pochettino’s regime.

If Kane leaves, a key member of that core is gone, leaving a vacuum not just in goalscoring but leadership.

The state of the Spurs core is close to collapse, but it provides a vital moment to move the club forward with proper recruitment.

Daniel Levy Must Back and Invest

Jose Mourinho was a failure at Spurs. He did not win the club any trophies, and in the process destroyed the “DNA” of the club with long-ball defensive football.

The next permanent manager, whether that is Ryan Mason or a newcomer, must be backed and a new project must begin. The quick fix failed miserably.

A new project could still involve Kane for a season. But without the hundred million pound injection of his transfer tag, or without Joe Lewis pouring more money into the club, there will have to be a more reserved approach to rebuilding the club.

There are still gaps in the squad, even if Kane stays. This has been the case for seasons and apart from the mentality issue, is the biggest reason for the lack of trophies at Spurs.

Perhaps the only way for these gaps to be addressed is to sell the big stars and build again with younger players. For Spurs fans, this will no doubt feel like an exhausting prospect, having built for so long under Pochettino. However, it may be the only way forward to return the club to its true former glory.

Pressure is growing on Levy to answer for the lack of success at the club. His player and management recruitment choices will become even more important this summer, to decide whether the club begins to bounce back or plummets further.
