Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is close to agreeing on a contract extension with Manchester United, according to James Ducker of The Telegraph.
The new contract does not depend on any success being achieved this season, with both parties currently happy with the way the club is being run.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Set to Remain With Manchester United
Time and Patience is Key
With confidence continuing to be brewed at Old Trafford, time and patience will continue to be key under the guidance of the Norwegian.
Solskjaer has been in charge for two-and-a-half years and has largely been conceded a success during his time with the club. He has provided stability and progression at a time when United needed it badly. The club were heading in the wrong direction under Jose Mourinho.
After a shaky start following his permanent appointment – United won just two of their first eight games – Solskjaer has gradually taken them from strength-to-strength.
Last season saw the club finish third in the Premier League, regaining their place in the Champions League after a solitary season in the Europa League. The Red Devils did see success in Europe’s secondary competition, though, reaching the semi-finals before being knocked out by eventual winners Sevilla.
As a result of that success, confidence remained heading into this season. On the whole, it has been a success; United are currently second in the Premier League, sitting behind likely champions Manchester City. After dropping out of the Champions League at the Group Stage, they are now sitting poised with a quarter-final tie against Granada in the Europa League.
Why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Remaining is Good for Manchester United
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done plenty of good work already at Old Trafford, and with a new contract, that is only likely to continue into the future. As a result, it is vital that he remains with the club.
The Norwegian has helped improve several players during his tenure. Marcus Rashford has grown into a well-rounded forward who is capable of playing anywhere across the front three. Luke Shaw is now staking his claim to be England’s starting left-back after an initial tricky period after the Norwegians’ arrival. While Bruno Fernandes has been a major revelation, he himself has improved during his time at Old Trafford.
Solskjaer’s work has also extended to bringing younger players through. Mason Greenwood has been one of the standouts – the 19-year-old registered 17 goals during his first full season as a first-team player. However, the likes of Brandon Williams, Shola Shoretire, Amid Diallo and Teden Mengi are all being shoehorned as players for the future.
As a result, Solskjaer can be the man to lead Manchester United into the next generation.
