Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds Officially Complete Wrexham AFC Takeover

Hollywood duo Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have officially become the new owners of National League club Wrexham AFC. The confirmation of the takeover comes months after the initial bid was approved by the Wrexham Supporter’s Trust – the organisation that previously owned the club.

Wrexham AFC Confirm Rob Mcelhenney and Ryan Reynolds Take 100 Per Cent Control

Despite taking 100 per cent control, the pair are adamant that they want to keep the Supporter’s Trust as close to the club as possible. And, as well as the full ownership, McElhenney and Reynolds have agreed to invest an initial £2 million straight into the club.

It is also particularly exciting for Wrexham fans, that the duo are evidently enthusiastic about the club and that they will not just be passive owners, who only see this is as a business venture. The duo have also reportedly been watching the National League side’s matches and are planning to attend games once they permitted to do so.

Financially speaking, the £2 million investment is vital for the club, especially during these times of financial uncertainty. And although the majority of this additional funding intends to cover the costs inflicted by the pandemic, it is expected that part of the investment will be spent on new training facilities.

A Big Boost for Wrexham’s Promotion Chase

It is now 13 years since the North Wales club were relegated into the National League, and after four failed play-off attempts, it seemed that they had been dragged into the non-league vacuum.

However, the Hollywood takeover seemingly revitalises the club and their ambitions of returning to the Football League.

The Red Dragons currently occupy the final play-off spot, but see a whole host of waiting clubs just behind the, should their form dip. But equally, they are just two points off Sutton United in third, and with the North Wales club unbeaten in their last five games, confidence levels will be high.
