After several loan spells away from The New Den, the 22-year-old full-back has started to break through into the Millwall side.
McNamara enjoyed a successful loan spell with Scottish side St Johnstone before being recalled at the start of the January transfer window. He made 22 appearances for the top-flight side, scoring just the once.
However, he has continued to reap the rewards of his successful north of the border since returning to South London. He has made seven appearances for Gary Rowett’s side, all of which have been starts. McNamara has shown his versatility as well, filling in at both right wing and in defensive midfield.
Speaking about his new deal to the official Millwall website, the 22-year-old credited the academy stuff for helping him get to where he is in his career.
He said: “I’m really happy. It’s something that has been in the pipeline for about a month now, so I’m buzzing to get it sorted. Being a Millwall boy – as are all my family – it means the world. Hopefully I’m doing them proud.
“Larry McAvoy and Chris Perry [Millwall’s Under 18s managers] were class with me when I was younger. They developed me and gave me chances and opportunities. I feel as though I’ve taken them and proved I can play.
“I didn’t realise my debut was going to come around so soon [after returning from loan], but I was over the moon. It was down to me to show that I could be trusted and I feel as though I did that.
“Within three days, I was in again against Bournemouth, and I think that shows the gaffer can trust me and vice versa.
“It’s been an all-round positive start and I hope I can continue that for the rest of the season.”
