Highly-Rated
The 25-year-old is highly-rated by fans of the MLS, and a move to Europe has been expected for some time.
Arriola has impressed at right-back since joining DC United in 2018. His attacking flair has caught the eye in particular – in 72 appearances, he has registered 14 goals and eight assists.
Arriola has also shown his attacking flair on the international stage with the United States. In 35 appearances for his country, he has scored eight times.
In a statement on the club website, DC United ‘s general manager, Dave Kasper, said: “We have spoken with Paul and we understand how exciting this step is for him in his professional career.
“We wish Paul the best of luck and look forward to him rejoining our club.”
Steve Cooper’s side do not have an option to buy the 25-year-old.
Second Right-Back Arrival
Swansea have also confirmed the arrival of Kieron Freeman, who is also a right-back, for an undisclosed fee. The 28-year-old will provide further cover for first-choice Connor Roberts.
Freeman began his career with Nottingham Forest in 2011, making his debut in a League Cup win over Wycombe Wanderers.
After loans with Mansfield Town and Notts County, Freeman joined Forest’s arch rivals Derby County 2012. However, a move to Pride Park did not prove to be successful, as he made just 27 appearances across a three-year spell.
Freeman then joined Sheffield United after an initial loan move in the 2013/14 season. He made 121 appearances for the Blades before being released last summer.
