Middlesbrough midfielder Lewis Wing has joined Rotherham United on loan for the rest of the season.
The midfielder has seen game time become limited in recent weeks and now joins Paul Warne’s side hoping for regular minutes.
Wing is the Millers’ second signing in this transfer window as Warne plots survival in the Championship.
Rotherham United Sign Midfielder Lewis Wing
Wing Has Played Just 12 Times in the League This Season
The midfielder has been with Middlesbrough since 2017 coming through the ranks and graduating to the first team.
He began in non-league plying his trade with Northern League side Shildon.
His previous loan spell was with Yeovil Town back in 2018 but goes to Rotherham in search of game time.
Wing has played just 12 times in the Championship this season, starting just four of those. He has managed one goal, which came in a thumping at Birmingham City.
With Neil Warnock preferring a tried and trusted, experienced midfield, Wing’s time on the pitch has been limited. His has bundles of quality and talent but has fallen down the pecking order this season.
A move to Rotherham offers a fresh challenge for a player who is excellent at Championship level. He will compete for a spot in the heart of the Rotherham side. They have plenty of options and Wing’s arrival adds further depth and quality.
The midfielder could make his Millers debut in their crucial clash with Derby County tomorrow evening.
Paul Warne Pleased With the Arrival of Wing
Speaking to the Rotherham website about his new signing, Warne said: “I think he’s happy to come and play in a team that wants to play forward, run forward, create chances, shoot and play without pressure in the final third.
“I like him for many reasons – he’s got an eye for a goal and he shoots on sight which is something we need because we definitely need to add more goals.
“He’s got a real energy about him, he can take set pieces and he can play in any one of those four positions in the middle of the park. The best thing for me is that he’s got an inner drive, he’s a winner and he’s a bit of a ‘scrapper’.
“I think he can come here and play a massive part in our run-in and hopefully have a positive impact on the team and put himself in the shop window for whatever happens in his career.”
