Newcastle United have turned down a deadline day bid from Watford for Matty Longstaff according to Chronicle Live.
Watford Have Bid Rejected for Matty Longstaff
Hornets Want a New Midfielder
Watford are on the hunt for a new midfielder before the transfer window shuts and their search led them to Newcastle and to Longstaff. Despite the fact that the 20-year old has only made four starts for the Premier League side so far this season – and therefore could do with more regular game time – the club have reportedly rejected the chance to send the midfielder out on loan.
Longstaff has been with Newcastle throughout his career so far but despite this, he has only made 21 league starts for the club so far.
He was a wanted man in the 2019/20 season after he impressed during his nine games and even managed to contribute two goals during that season from the centre of the field. However, he has since struggled to feature as regularly and it led to Watford bidding to bring the player to the club on loan to the Championship.
Bid Also Rejected By Steve Bruce for Sean Longstaff
However, boss Steve Bruce has snubbed the attempt by the Hornets to take the player on a short-term basis and even reportedly rejected a bid from the club for another Longstaff in Sean Longstaff. Both Longstaffs look poised to stay in the Premier League and get the first-team action whenever they can at Newcastle rather than leaving on a loan deal to any other potential team.
Watford Will Not Be Allowed to Sign Matty Longstaff
However, he also won’t be leaving the club, with the player himself not prepared to leave the Toon on deadline day.
It means then that Watford will have to look elsewhere in their pursuit of a new midfielder but with time running out before the window closes, the second-tier side will have to move fast if they want to have any hope of bringing in a midfielder before the deadline.
