Liverpool Set to Miss Out on Sven Botman

Liverpool will not be signing Sven Botman, today according to Fabrizio Romano and it means that Preston North End’s Ben Davies could be the only centre-back coming to Anfield on transfer deadline day.

Liverpool Not Signing Sven Botman on Deadline Day

Regularly Linked With a Bid for the Player

The Reds have been consistently linked with a move for the defender, as they have been eager to solve what has been a centre-back injury crisis for the Premier League club. With the side having to resort to using midfielders in that central defensive position, many believed one or two centre-backs would be on their way to the club this month.

One defender linked with a potential switch has been Sven Botman. The 21-year-old has caught the eye with his performances for Lille in France and has been rumoured to be one of the main defensive targets for Jurgen Klopp.

No Contact or Talks over a Transfer Deal

However, reports today have claimed that the Dutchman will not be heading to England and Liverpool before the window closes. There has been no contact today over a potential move for the player as of yet and no talks have opened regarding a potential switch to Anfield.

This is despite Botman putting in some good performances regularly for Lille. With 22 appearances so far this campaign, he is a regular in the side and has even helped his team to a current first place in the Ligue 1 table – three points clear of Paris Saint-Germain.

No Liverpool Move for Sven Botman Will Happen This Transfer Window

It means that Ben Davies, who is set to join on a cheap deal from Preston North End in the Championship, could be the only centre-back that Liverpool bring in today despite missing several key defenders.

Whether they will move for Botman in the summer is another matter but if he continues to impress in France regularly, then he is sure to be on the radar of not just the Reds but of several other top teams in Europe too.
