Manchester United wonderkid Facundo Pellistri, who moved to Old Trafford last summer, has now left the club on loan with Spanish side Deportivo Alaves. The youngster was unable to break into the first team, despite impressing with the under-23s, and with Amad Diallo now having joined the squad, Pellistri’s best chance of senior game-time was always going to be with another club.
Manchester United Wonderkid Facundo Pellistri Leaves on Loan
Arrived in the Summer but Struggling to Break into the Senior Team
Pellistri arrived on transfer deadline day last summer, stirring up much excitement among the United fan base. Partially overshadowed by the agreement to sign one of the most exciting talents in world football Amad Diallo from Atalanta, Pellistri’s move still drew a fair amount of intrigue, and many were excited to see the new Uruguayan addition appear for the Red Devils’ first team.
Some easier Carabou Cup fixtures early on in the season could potentially have provided Pellistri with a window of opportunity into United’s starting lineup, but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer–who has shown on multiple previous occasions that he can very aptly bring players into the first team, and knows when and when not to do so–felt that he needed more time to settle in.
The Red Devils’ FA Cup third-round tie with Watford may also have given Pellistri a chance to prove himself on the big stage, but a positive Coronavirus test days before ruled him out.
While United fans may want to see him appear for the mens’ team, Diallo’s integration into the senior squad is likely to take priority, and Pellistri will need to look elsewhere to gain the experience that is so vital for his development.
That is what has now occured, with Alaves providing the youngster a chance to show his worth in a top league.
