The Youngster Has Played Just 32 Minutes of Football This Season
Birmingham born Harper has spent his entire career with West Brom. He is a product of their academy and seen as one of their brightest talents. However, Harper has played just two games this season, equating to 32 minutes of football.
At 20 years of age, he needs game time and experience. This will be his second loan spell away from the Baggies having played nine games for Blackburn Rovers in 2017. He joins a Birmingham City side in desperate need of a creative spark in midfield.
The Blues are struggling to score goals consistently. Only three sides in the Championship have scored fewer than Birmingham’s total of 18. Aitor Karanka will hope Harper can bring that much-needed injection of creativity and pace from central midfield.
Harper will be hoping an impressive loan spell at Birmingham will put him back into the equation at West Brom. He has struggled to nail down a spot in the Baggies side since making the breakthrough to the first team. Since breaking through in 2017, Harper has made a total of just 17 starts. 13 of those came during 2018/19 season under Darren Moore.
A move to Birmingham City offers him a great opportunity to showcase his skills and get some experience under his belt.
Harper could make his debut in Birmingham’s crucial clash with Coventry City in nine days’ time. Both sides are locked together in the Championship table, hovering precariously above the dreaded relegation zone.
