Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has claimed the club will always be interested in Lionel Messi and claims they will keep an eye on the situation closely.
Paris Saint-Germain Claim Lionel Messi on Club’s List
Rumours That Messi Wanted to Leave Barcelona
Speaking to France Football, the Ligue 1 side’s sporting director claimed that they are a side that will ‘always have Messi on their list.’
The Argentine has, of course, been linked with a deal away from the club in recent seasons. The most recent rumours surfaced during the off-season before the 2020/21 campaign.
The player reportedly wanted to leave the Camp Nou and was ready for a new challenge due to the club’s turmoils on and off the pitch.
However, no move for the 33-year old materialised and he instead stayed in Spain.
Paris Saint-Germain a Team Interested in Lionel Messi
He’s been with Barcelona for 17 seasons now and has played over 500 La Liga games for the club. During that time, he has regularly proven himself to be the best player in world football and one of the greatest players to ever play the game.
This season, he already has 13 goal contributions in 17 league games – still an impressive haul for the player.
Speaking about any potential PSG interest in the player, Leonardo said: “Players like Messi will always be on PSG list.
“Now it’s not the time to talk about it. But we’re sitting at the table of those who follow the case closely.
In fact, no, we isn’t seated yet, but our chair is just reserved just in case.”
Leonardo Hopeful of Keeping Neymar and Mbappe at the Club
In addition, the sporting director has claimed he hopes to be able to keep Kylian Mbappe and Neymar at the club and hopes they are convinced that the French side is the right place to be right now.
Both players have been linked with transfer moves away from the club but Leonardo hopes that PSG are a team that will prove to be the best place for them both to be. He said: “I hope Neymar and Mbappé are convinced that PSG is a good place at the moment for a high-level, ambitious player.
“We just have to find an agreement between their desires, requirements and our expectations and means.”
PSG then are hoping to not only be one of the teams to throw their hat in the ring for Lionel Messi but to keep Neymar and Mbappe at the club- potentially making the Frenchman an unstoppable force under Pochettino.
