Birmingham City midfielder Daniel Crowley has joined Hull City on loan for the rest of the season.
Crowley has made just three appearances in the Championship this season and has fallen down the pecking order since Aitor Karanka’s appointment as Birmingham manager.
Crowley’s arrival takes Hull’s tally of new signings this month to three.
Hull City Sign Midfielder Daniel Crowley On Loan
Crowley Joins After Playing Just Three Times in the Championship
The versatile midfielder began his career at Aston Villa before moving to Arsenal’s academy. He failed to make a senior appearance for either side but he made his name in the Eredivisie with Willem II.
His two years in the Netherlands were very productive as he made 50 appearances and scored six goals. He was the talisman in Willem II’s midfield and became of one of the league’s brightest midfielders.
Those performances earned him a move to Birmingham City in 2019. He made 38 appearances during the 2019/20 season becoming a fixture in the side under Pep Clotet. However, since Aitor Karanka’s appointment at the start of this season, Crowley has fallen down the pecking order.
He has been limited to just three appearances and one start in the Championship. Crowley follows Gavin Whyte and Jordan Flores in signing for Hull City in this transfer window.
The Tigers are looking to maintain their promotion push and Crowley’s arrival brings further creativity and goals. He joins a Hull side second in the League One table, three points behind leaders Lincoln City.
Crowley could be involved in tomorrow’s night game against Accrington Stanley if the paperwork was sent to the EFL in time. If not, then his debut is likely to arrive this weekend when Hull travel to promotion rivals Portsmouth.
Grant McCann Pleased With Hull City’s Transfer Business
Speaking to the Hull City website about his new signing, Hull manager Grant McCann said: “It’s a great signing for us.
“He will make a difference in the front three and is versatile in how he can play, off the left or as a 10, sometimes as a nine.
“He’s a clever player and wants to get on the ball, wants to get on the half-turn, wants to create opportunities and wants to score goals.
“It’s three new signings in the last week with Gavin Whyte and Jordan Flores, and we’re really pleased with our business.”
Crowley’s arrival completes an excellent day for the Tigers who have also tied down talented striker Keane Lewis-Potter to a new deal.
