Luka Jovic Stars on Eintracht Frankfurt Return

Luka Jovic Frankfurt

Luka Jovic is back to scoring goals for Eintracht Frankfurt since returning to the Bundesliga club on loan from Real Madrid. The Serbian striker recorded a brace for Frankfurt in their 3-1 victory over Schalke on Sunday. It was a fantastic performance from Jovic whose six-month loan spell at Frankfurt was announced just days ago.

With Jovic arriving in the last few days from Madrid, he started on the bench in Adi Hütter’s matchday squad. He would enter the match in the 62nd minute to replace Erik Durm as Hütter and Frankfurt were in search of the winning goal. Jovic would deliver the match-winning goal in the 72nd minute and added an insurance goal in stoppage time to secure maximum points for Frankfurt.

Goal Drought Over

The last time Jovic scored a goal in a domestic league was almost a year ago. He scored in February 2020 for Real Madrid in a La Liga match against Osasuna. Since then, he had been without a domestic league goal, until scoring a brace against Schalke on Sunday. Jovic’s goalscoring form remained at international level for Serbia but scoring on the club level has not come as easy for the 23-year-old striker over the course of the last 12 months.

This performance for Frankfurt is an encouraging sign that Jovic can emulate his previous goal scoring form in the Bundesliga. His last season in the German top-flight saw him score 17 goals in 32 appearances during the 2018/19 campaign. His last brace at the club level was in December of 2018 for Frankfurt against Mainz. He has certainly performed well during his time in Germany and it appears his six-month loan stint with Frankfurt is headed in the right direction.
