Arsenal Eyeing Freddie Woodman in Search for New Goalkeeper

Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a move for Freddie Woodman as they bid to sign a new goalkeeper.

Impressed in the Championship for Swansea City

The Newcastle United shot-stopper is currently on loan at Swansea City, with the Championship side having had him on a short-term basis for the last two seasons.

He’s impressed with the Welsh side, having helped them finish sixth in the league last year and now taking them to second in the table so far.

His impressive displays in the second tier (and in Scotland on several other loan deals) have caught the eye of Arsenal, who are keen to bring in another goalkeeper to the squad.

Bernd Leno os Current Number One at Arsenal

Bernd Leno is Arsenal’s current number one but boss Mikel Arteta reportedly wants a strong second option behind him, who could potentially take the gloves (and cement a regular place) if needed.

He’s identified Woodman as a potential signing due to his impressive performances and could launch a move for his services.

However, with the player currently on a loan at Swansea until the end of the season, it means they may have to wait until the end of the current campaign to try and land him.

Arsenal, of course, sold Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa before the season started and he has since played superbly for their Premier League rivals and has gone from strength-to-strength as a player.

Newcastle’s Freddie Woodman on Arsenal Transfer Shortlist

It’s left them short in the goalkeeping area despite signing a replacement at the beginning of the season. They now believe signing a keeper is one of their most important focuses and are prepared to try and sign Woodman, who is on their shortlist.

Woodman, having played for Swansea, has also played for Aberdeen, Kilmarnock, Crawley Town and Hartlepool United on loan since signing professional terms with Newcastle. He has yet to make an appearance for the Toon in the Premier League though.
