Luka Jovic enjoyed his two-year spell in Frankfurt while previously on loan from Benfica. His impressive displays earned him a £56.7 million (€60 million) move to Real Madrid, but his time in the Spanish capital has been disappointing.
During his time with Los Blancos, the Serbian has managed just two goals from 32 appearances, with both coming last season. Jovic has managed just six league appearances this season.
Jovic has struggled with injuries since his switch to Spain. A hip problem, foot injury and tear in his abductor muscle have all resulted in spells on the sideline. Not to mention, the forward has also tested positive for COVID-19.
Jovic at Frankfurt
The loan spell at Frankfurt proved the most fruitful of his career to date. From 75 matches, Jovic netted an incredible 36 goals for Die Adler.
During his time in Frankfurt, Jovic won the DFB-Pokal in 2018, and remains the youngest ever player in the Bundesliga to score five goals in one game when his side won 7-1 against Fortuna Düsseldorf.
What Was Said
Speaking to the clubs’ official website, board member Fredi Bobic said: “Luka hasn’t had an easy time of late in Madrid.
“It’s important for him to find his form again. He had a strong desire to return to Eintracht.
“Luka can use the next few months to get back to his best in an environment that’s familiar to him. Real Madrid know that he’ll be well looked after with us and can continue his development. And for us, it’s clear that we have another outstanding option at centre-forward.”
