Crewe Alexandra Reject Championship Bid for Perry Ng

Perry Ng

League One side Crewe Alexandra have rejected a bid from Championship side Cardiff City for Perry Ng, according to Sky Sports. It is thought that the bid for the 24-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, was around £250,000 plus add-ons.

Crewe Alexandra Reject Perry Ng Bid

Boss Angry With ‘Disgusting’ Bid

Ng has been one of the rising stars in the EFL for some years now, and any bid to take him away from Crewe is going to have to compensate heavily for the loss.

Clearly, though, Cardiff’s efforts to sign the right-back did not match Crewe’s valuation, with manager David Artell angry at the sum offered.

He said: “The offer that Cardiff made, I am not even sure, I think we have responded just to be polite.

“It didn’t warrant a response – it was that derisory. It was disgusting.

“It’s come about (through) an agent that’s not his agent trying to stick his nose in, trying to force a deal, trying to engineer a deal.

“It’s like, you don’t understand. If you think that’s going to get the deal over the line, you are miles away – like between here and Mars away.”

Pickering Bid Rejected Too

Crewe have also confirmed that a bid for fellow defender Harry Pickering has been turned down.

The bid also came from the Championship, this time from Blackburn Rovers, Crewe have confirmed.

Boss Artell said: “I can tell you that we have had a bid for Harry from Blackburn but we have turned that down.

“We don’t sell our players, clubs buy them. We don’t go round trying to sell our players. We had an agent trying to do that with Perry recently and he was way off the mark. We don’t operate like that.

“Clubs come in for them and we know what they are worth.

Cardiff’s Right-Back Search Goes On

Bluebirds boss Neil Harris is looking to bolster his options at right-back in this window.

Jordan Osei-Tutu joined on loan from Arsenal in the summer but is still not up to full fitness, meaning that midfielder Leandro Bacuna has been used to fill the gap.

Harris confirmed that Ng is among the players the club have looked at, but did not expand on the bid that was made or whether he is one of their top targets.

He said: “It’s always going to be about opinions, isn’t it? I don’t need to respond to that comment, from club to club.

“It’s a player we are aware of and have looked at for a period of time, but that’s as much as I’m willing to say on that.”

Perry Ng This Season

It’s not a surprise to see Championship clubs considering Ng in their transfer business.

The Liverpool-born defender was one of the key players in Crewe’s promotion last season and has been as solid as ever for this time around, helping his side to sit just two points outside the League One play-off places.

Aside from Crewe feeling that Cardiff’s bid was far wide of the mark, they will want to keep Ng around for the rest of this season at the very least if they are to make a run for the play-off spots.

The only downside on their part, though, is that they have played more fixtures than any team in the top half other than leaders Lincoln City, so could find they fall away again once those games have been caught up.

Ng had been ever-present for Crewe this season up until December, featuring for the full 90 minutes in all of their league matches.

However, the defender received a six-match suspension early last month having been found guilty of spitting at an opponent (FA Rule E1), and has not played since the goalless draw with Hull City in the Papa John’s Trophy.
