PSV Eindhoven are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld, reports Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf. The Belgian is contracted to Spurs until 2023 but has often been linked with moves away.
Toby Alderweireld a Target for PSV Eindhoven
Well Stocked at Centre-Back
Spurs have plenty of options at centre-back, although Alderwerield is arguably the best of them.
While he was out injured, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez were partnered at centre-back while Jose Mourinho also has youngsters Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga at his disposal.
Given that Spurs would be unlikely to buy a replacement for Alderweireld straight away if he were to be sold (owing to the Covid-19 pandemic), they could be reluctant to sell in this window.
However, PSV’s interest currently does not go beyond talks with Alderweireld’s agent to see if he would be interested in the move.
Spurs Targetting Defender
If Spurs were to sell, whether in this window or another, a possible replacement could be Eder Militao according to Mundo Deportivo.
The report suggests that the Brazillian is on Spurs’ list of reinforcements for this window. This is in spite of Spurs’ reluctance to spend at the moment because of uncertainty around the pandemic.
If it is to be believed, the signing could be used as a replacement for Sanchez rather than Alderweireld.
The Colombian has failed to impress this season at centre-back and could be forced out either this month or in the summer.
Militao, who currently plays for Real Madrid, a club Spurs have done lots of business recently, cost the club €50 million when they signed him from Portuguese side Porto in 2019.
However, he has never found a regular place in Zinedine Zidane’s side and is likely to be on his way out this January.
