Portsmouth forward Jordy Hiwula has extended his contract. The extension will keep the 26-year-old at Fratton Park until the summer.
Portsmouth Forward Jordy Hiwula Pens Contract for Remainder of the Season
Three Goals in Five Games for Hiwula at Portsmouth
Having won League One last season with Coventry City, Hiwula was released by the Sky Blues but quickly snapped up by Kenny Jackett and Portsmouth on a short term contract.
The 26-year-old may have only featured five times this season, but he has found the net on three occasions as he returns to full fitness.
His goals came during Pompey’s 6-1 FA Cup win over Kings Lynn Town and a brace against Cheltenham Town in the Football League Trophy.
At the start of the month, The News Portsmouth reported that League One strugglers Swindon Town were looking to acquire the forward following the expiry of his Pompey contract, but that has now been quashed.
What Was Said
Speaking to the clubs’ official website, Hiwula said: “I’ve settled in really well here and wanted to stay for the rest of the season, so I’m really pleased to have signed a new deal.
“On a personal level, I’m hoping to be involved a bit more, but will just take things one game at a time.
“We’re still in three competitions and looking to do well in all of them, although the aim has to be to secure promotion and we’ve got a set of boys here who can achieve that.
“It’s been a strange time with no games for a few weeks, but we’ve been training hard and are feeling fresh ahead of the FA Cup game at Bristol City this weekend.”
Pompey manager Kenny Jackett added: “I’m delighted that we’ve secured Jordy’s services for the second half of the season.
“He’s an excellent finisher, with good movement and touch, and has been pushing our forward players for a starting place.
“I’m really pleased that he’ll be staying with us as we do our best to secure promotion to the Championship.”
