Son Heung-min has had yet another tremendous season. The South Korean has registered 12 goals and five assists from just 16 Premier League appearances for Spurs. In all competitions this season, Son has netted 16 times.
Now though, the 28-year-old has taken the personal accolade with a landslide in the votes. 45 of the 51 judges ranked Son first, with four more voting him in second, rounding off a substantial victory.
Son was voted alongside players who either play for an AFC club side or is eligible to represent an AFC member nation. Zenit St Petersburg’s Asmar Azmoun came second, while AFC Champions League winner Junior Negrao finished third, but the pair were some way behind the Spurs man. Son has now claimed the award six times, winning in 2014 and 2015 before claiming the prize every year since 2017.
Monumental Year for Son
It has been a superb year for Son. In addition to his impressive goal tally this season, the Spurs man netted his 100th goal for the club in their 3-0 win over Leeds United.
He also won the Puskas Award for the best goal at Fifa’s The Best awards last month following his sensational goal against Burnley in December 2019. The week prior, Son also picked up the KFA Player of the Year trophy, which he won for a record fifth time.
Now though, Spurs may have to fight hard to keep hold of the South Korean. The 28-year-old is still yet to sign a new deal with the club, and with several clubs showing interest, a move away for the South Korean could soon be on the cards.
