West Bromwich Albion defender Cedric Kipre has emerged as a target for Blackburn Rovers, according to Birmingham Live and Jaquob Crooke of Lancashire Live. The Championship side are looking for defensive recruits following a string of injuries at the back.
Kipre only joined West Brom in the summer but has barely featured and a move away from the Hawthorns may suit both parties. Sam Allardyce is desperate to strengthen his team as the Baggies battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League. Exits from the Hawthorns will free up crucial space and funds for Allardyce to bring in fresh faces.
According to Birmingham Live, Kipre is a loan target for the Championship side as Tony Mowbray looks to add defensive options to his squad.
Cedric Kipre Emerges as a Transfer Target For Blackburn Rovers
Kipre Yet to Make a Mark at The Hawthorns
The defender only joined West Bromwich Albion from Wigan Athletic in the summer window. However, he has yet to feature in the Premier League and has been limited to just two cup appearances. Kipre struggled to impress former Baggies manager Slaven Bilic or predecessor Sam Allardyce.
Kipre is vastly experienced at Championship level having been a fixture in the Wigan Athletic side until their relegation last season. He was a target for Blackburn in the summer but he chose to move to the Midlands instead.
Defensive Troubles for Rovers
Rovers manager Tony Mowbray is desperate for defensive recruits following injuries at the back. Daniel Ayala became the latest Rovers player to pick up an injury which has seen Bradley Johnson slot into the back four due to the number of injuries.
Kipre is a big physical defender who offers a presence in both boxes. He will slot into the heart of the Rovers defence determined to help Blackburn maintain their promotion push.
Rovers are 11th in the Championship, just five points off the play-offs. Kipre’s arrival will certainly ease Rovers’ injury crisis. It is likely to be an initial loan deal for the rest of the season.
