How Amad Diallo Can Impact Manchester United

Amad Diallo is set to join Manchester United in January after the agreement of his transfer was reached in October. The 18-year-old looks to be a fantastic prospect, but he might not go straight into the first team upon arriving.

How Amad Diallo’s Manchester United Career Could Start

Still Young

While fans may want to see an exciting young talent put straight into the first team, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the club’s management need to do what is best for the player’s future.

This season so far with Atalanta, Diallo has only appeared twice, accumulating a total of 35 minutes of football. It is unlikely, therefore, that he will see regular game-time in the Premier League soon after his arrival at Old Trafford.

Despite this, it would be reasonable to assume that he will get more first-team action than fellow prospect Facundo Pellistri in the early days of his time in Manchester.

At 18 years of age, Pellistri joined late in the summer transfer window, certainly looking like a signing for the future. Now 19, he is yet to appear for the senior team, although he has made the bench twice. The Uruguayan winger has, however, been a key figure in the Red Devils’ under-23 side so far this campaign. He has two goals and one assist from six appearances and has injected much quality into the already greatly talented squad.

Diallo’s opportunity to impress is likely to come in cup competitions. Having finished third in their Champions League group, United have dropped to the Europa League, with their first fixture in mid-February. They also start their FA Cup campaign in early January, and Diallo may make his first appearance for the side in one of this competition’s early rounds.

Ultimately, Diallo was a signing made for the future, and while fans will want to see as much of him as possible right from the outset, the club have to do what is best for the player’s development, as well as the team’s immediate success.
