Arsenal have confirmed Brazilian defender Gabriel will miss the next two games after having tested positive for COVID-19.

Gabriel to Miss Next Two Games After COVID-19 Positive Test

Team News Update

In an update on the club website, Arsenal stated: “Gabriel: Has tested positive for COVID-19 and is isolating according to UK Government and Premier League protocols. We will continue to monitor and support Gabriel, and we are hoping he will be available again after our next two matches.”

Should he be available, Gabriel’s next game will be his first in the FA Cup, as Arsenal host Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium in the third round of the famous competition.

With no further injury news following the 3-1 win over Chelsea on Boxing Day (December 26, 2020), the club provided updates on  Thomas Partey, David Luiz and Willian.

Partey and David Luiz have returned to outside training, with Partey being monitored and David Luiz set to re-join the full squad on Thursday, December 31, as will Willian.

Arsenal reiterated their commitment to regular COVID-19 testing: “As part of Premier League protocol, all members of our first-team squad and support staff continue to be regularly tested for COVID-19.”

Gabriel a Regular in the Arsenal Defence

Since joining in the summer, Gabriel has been a regular member of the Arsenal defence, missing just three of their 15 Premier League games to-date so far.

Despite the club’s poor form, Gabriel has not been detrimental to that and has even found the net on two occasions. The 23-year-old has the potential to be a key player for the club in the long-term.

Following the win over Chelsea, Mikel Arteta’s side will be looking to kick-on and pick up as many points as they possibly can.
