Liverpool are ‘certain’ to offer star player Mohamed Salah a new contract in an attempt to fend off interest according to Goal’s Neil Jones.
Liverpool to Offer Mohamed Salah New Contract
Salah Teases Spanish Exit
The 28-year old teased a possible Liverpool exit to Barcelona or Real Madrid in an interview with Spanish outlet AS.
Salah said: “I think Madrid and Barcelona are two top clubs. Who knows what will happen in the future, but right now I am focused on winning the Premier League and the Champions League with Liverpool again.”
The Egyptian’s contract at Anfield expires in the summer of 2023 and a new improved contract is set to be on the table to fend off any potential admirers.
This Season
As Liverpool thumped Crystal Palace 7-0 on the weekend, the 28-year old came off the bench to claim two goals and an assist in a 20-minute cameo.
The brace leapfrogged Salah to the top of the scoring charts in the Premier League, now two in front of Jamie Vardy, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Son Heung-Min.
Goal-Scoring Machine
Since his transfer from Roma in 2017, Salah has transformed into one of the best players in the world, and has played 173 times for the Reds in all competitions; scoring 110 goals.
Having picked up two Premier League Golden Boots in three seasons, he is on course for another after netting nine times in his last 12 games.
Salah Seeking New Contract
With Salah turning 29 next summer in June, the interest from the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain seems more substantial as he would be entering the last 18 months of his contract. The Egyptian’s rare interview could be seen as an insight into his thinking for the next stage of his career. Though, at the same time, the interview could well be a reminder to Liverpool that a new contract is expected.
