Son Heung-min Puskas

Son Heung-min has won the FIFA Puskas award for his exhilarating goal against Burnley.

It was a fabulous solo effort, flying down the length of the pitch beating multiple Burnley defenders before slotting past the keeper.

This is the second accolade that Son has won in the past week, adding to his KFA Player of the Year trophy, which he won for a record fifth time.

Son’s Individual Brilliance

Son has deservedly won more credit for his exceptional play. He is such an exciting player to watch, capable of slicing through defences and finishing with deadly accuracy.

He is yet to win a trophy at Tottenham, but that could change with the Lilywhites still in the title race and advancing in the Europa League.

Jose Mourinho took to his Instagram account to send a message to Sonny, congratulating him on the win:

“Going home and watching FIFA TV. Sonny Puskas award, the best goal of the season, of course Sonny.”

Meanwhile Jan Vertonghen was quick to claim the assist for setting Son on his way to scoring the fantastic goal. He also took to Instagram to send his message:

“You owe me one for that assist bro!! Congrats on winning the Puskas Award!”

Spurs Aim to Extend Son’s Contract

The South Korean superstar is currently contracted to the club until 2023. However, negotiations are ongoing for a contract extension.

Mourinho said:

“I just trust Sonny and Daniel Levy. I know that both want him to stay, if possible, for life, if possible until the end of the career.

“I see Sonny signing a new contract here but I don’t press for something to happen now because probably it’s not the right moment.”

Spurs are yet to agree a new contract with Son due to the coronavirus pandemic and its financial impact on the club, which is estimated to be around a £63.9 million loss at the end of June 2020.
