Stoke City striker Tyrese Campbell is likely to miss the rest of this season, the club have confirmed. The 20-year-old fell awkwardly on his knee in last Tuesday’s loss to Cardiff City and following the advice of specialists, he is set to miss the remainder of the campaign.

Stoke to Miss Campbell’s Influence

After breaking into the first-team at the bet365 Stadium last season, Campbell continued to improve at the beginning of this campaign. He had six goals in 16 games in the Championship (seven in all competitions) in 2020/21 having scored nine last year.

He leads Stoke’s scoring charts, too, with three more overall than joint-second pair Steven Fletcher and Nick Powell.

Speaking to the club website, Stoke manager Michael O’Neill said: “It’s a cruel blow for us but even more so for Tyrese, a young man with a great future who had been performing so well for us this season.”

Campbell’s form had also seen him land the PFA Player of the Month awards for September and October.

Injuries at Both Ends

Stoke have also struggled in the goalkeeper department this season, with both Angus Gunn and Adam Davies suffering injuries. It has seen the Potters recall Josef Bursik from his loan at Doncaster Rovers and slot into the starting position.

In addition, Stoke have added former Liverpool stopper Andy Lonergan and ex-Bristol City keeper Niki Maenpaa to their ranks as cover.

Despite the injury issues, O’Neill has the Potters sitting eighth in the table with eight wins from 18 matches.
