Manchester United Forward Edinson Cavani Refused Offers to Serie A in the Summer

Manchester United summer signing Edinson Cavani has revealed that he turned down a move to Serie A sides Juventus and Inter Milan before joining the Red Devils.

Refused Offers After Long Spell in Serie A with Napoli

The reason the Uruguayan striker refused offers from the two clubs in Serie A was down to his respect and love for the supporters of Napoli. The 33-year-old spent three seasons at the, newly named, Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, where he was part of the side that won the Coppa Italia in 2012.

Initially joining the club on a season-long loan, Cavani then signed a five year deal with Gli Azzurri. During his tenure at the Italian club, Cavani scored an incredible 104 goals from just 138 games. As a result, Ligue 1 powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain prized the Uruguayan away.

What Cavani Said

In a recent interview by the MondoNapoli site, as reported by French media outlet RMC Sport, Cavani said: “I will always be grateful to them. That’s why I said no to so many Italian clubs, including Juventus, who called me often, but also Inter.

“If I think of Napoli, I think of joy. Because I know that I have done so much for them and that they continue to honour me with all of this.”

The move may have been a blow for the two Serie A sides but it was a welcome relief for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United.

Time at Manchester United for Cavani

Having ended his time in Paris after seven years, where he won a total of 19 competitions, the experienced forward signed for Manchester United in October 2019.

His time in England started slowly due to lack of match fitness but he has netted three times from just six Premier League outings. Despite failing to score in four Champions League appearances, the striker still looks to be a good signing by the Red Devils.
