Chelsea to Allow Fikayo Tomori to Leave on Loan in January

Happy With His Progress

According to the Italian journalist, despite not playing regularly this season, the Blues are happy with the progress that he is making.

However, as a result of not being a regular in the first-team, Chelsea and manager Frank Lampard are keen for him to go out on loan. According to Ciaran Kelly of the Newcastle Chronicle, the centre-back is also open to leaving Stamford Bridge.

The 22-year-old defender has made just three appearances so far this season, two of which came in the League Cup. His only appearance in the Premier League so far this season came in the 2-0 defeat at home to Liverpool, where Tomori came on as a second half substitute.

Since returning from his loan with Derby County, Tomori has been rotated in and out of the starting line-up. Last season saw him make 19 appearances in all competitions, including four in the Champions League.

During those games early on in the 2019/20 season, the 22-year-old showed why there are high hopes for him at Stamford Bridge. He coped superbly against tougher opposition in defence after making the step up while still looking to play the ball out from the back.

As a result, his talent is clear for fans to see. However, he has arguably suffered with the arrival of experienced defender Thiago Silva and Lampard’s eagerness for a settled defence. The Chelsea boss experimented with several combinations last season, leading to a dismal defensive record.

The 22-year-old will have plenty of suitors should he opt to leave. It is likely that several mid-table Premier League sides, such as Newcastle United, will be interested in his signature.
