Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico has agreed a new contract with Ajax, according to Mike Verweij on De Telegraaf. The Argentine defender was previously linked with Chelsea in the summer before they opted to sign Ben Chilwell. He has also been touted as a target for Manchester City, who have struggled to nail down a left-back of similar quality to the rest of their defence.
Tagliafico’s contract was due to run out in 2022 but Verweij reports that an agreement was found with Ajax on Thursday to extend it by another year.

Deal Could Be Announced Soon
It is expected that Ajax will announce the agreement with Tagliafico next week. According to Verweij, one of the agreements is that the defender will finish the season with Ajax before he could be allowed to pursue options with other clubs in Europe.
Last season, Tagliafico was being pursued by Chelsea, with an asking price of around €20 million. Partly due to the Coronavirus pandemic, though, none of the offers were tempting enough for Tagliafico to leave the club.

More recent reports have emerged linking Manchester City with the 28-year-old as the Citizens supposedly have doubts over the long-term future of Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Pep Guardiola’s side could make a move for the defender in January with around £23 million being suggested for the fee.
Since joining Ajax in 2018 from Argentine side Independiente, Tagliafico has made 110 appearances for the Dutch club, scoring 16 times.
He also made 15 appearances in the club’s 2018/19 Champions League run to the semi-finals, when they were dramatically knocked out by Tottenham Hotspur after Lucas Moura’s second-half hat-trick in Amsterdam.
