Real Madrid have announced that striker Luka Jovic has tested positive for COVID-19.
Real Madrid Confirm Luka Jovic Has COVID-19
Luka Jovic Played for Serbia on International Duty
The striker featured for his country on November, 18 and banged in two goals as his side strolled to a 5-0 demolition of Russia.
He would have hoped he could carry that form into his club’s game against Villareal this weekend but that will not happen now, as the player will be forced to self-isolate.
Several players in football, and for Madrid, have been forced to self-isolate due to the virus and Jovic is now the latest to have to quarantine because of it after being on international duty.
Jovic Struggled for Gametime at Real Madrid
The striker has struggled to feature too prominently for the La Liga side so far this season, playing only four times. Of those four games, he only started two of them.
It means that since joining the Spanish side two seasons ago back in 2019, he has featured only 21 times and scored twice, with one assist.
Striker Enjoyed Best Football with Eintracht Frankfurt
The 22-year old has so far enjoyed the best football of his career during his time in Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt. It was back in 2018/19 when, as a 20-year old, he enjoyed the most prolific season of his career.
Making 25 starts, he had 22 goal contributions and it unsurprisingly caught the eye of Real Madrid who were quick to secure his signature.
Before that, he played in his native Serbia for Red Star as a 15-year old and then spent time in Portugal with Benfica, where he only appeared twice before making the switch to Germany.
Eager to Start Scoring at Real Madrid
Jovic will undoubtedly be desperate to start featuring (and scoring) more regularly for Real Madrid and would have no doubt been hopeful to carry on his goalscoring this weekend with his club side. However, he now faces time out on the sidelines until the completion of his quarantine.
