Doncaster Rovers have signed goalkeeper Joe Lumley on an emergency loan from Queens Park Rangers.
Joe Lumley Joins Doncaster on Loan
Joe Lumley Also Spent Time on Loan With Gillingham
The goalkeeper joins Rovers instantly and will be available for the weekends game against Sunderland. The loan deal – which is classed as an ’emergency deal’ – will see the 25-year old stay at the club for seven days before returning to his parent side.
The shot-stopper has experience in League One, which will be invaluable for Doncaster having also played for Gillingham this year on another emergency loan. During those two starts, he conceded two goals but won one and lost the other.
Experienced Football League Goalkeeper
Gillingham isn’t his only experience in the Football League either. Originally starting his career at Accrington Stanley as a 19-year old, he caught the eye of QPR who duly snapped him up.
He has since played 74 times for his parent club, conceding 112 goals and with a clean sheet rate of 24.3 per cent. Considering most of the football he has played at Loftus Road has been at the Championship level, it should prove to be beneficial to Rovers this weekend as they take on the Black Cata.
Lumley has also played for Bristol Rovers and Blackpool in League One before. It adds up to to a total of 38 games in the third tier of English football with 40 goals conceded while managing 15 clean sheets along the way, which certainly is not bad for the young goalkeeper.
Bursik Recalled by Stoke City
The move for Lumley comes after Doncaster’s main goalkeeper, Josef Bursik, was recalled by his parent club, Stoke City. The Potters were forced to turn to the 20-year old due to the fact their on-loan goalkeeper, Angus Gunn, was ruled out with an injury.
It meant that the Championship side were left without many options in goal and had to call on Bursik.
