Olamide Shodipo Joins Oxford United From Queens Park Rangers

Oxford United have made a deadline day signing with the addition of winger Olamide Shodipo from Queens Park Rangers. The 23-year-old joins from the R’s on a season-long loan.

Winger Arrives on Season-Long Loan

The addition will be a welcome boost for U’s boss Karl Robinson, who has been in the hunt for a pacey left winger for most of the window.

The former Republic of Ireland U21 international, who earned six caps, can play on either wing, but his preferred position is on the left.

Shodipo’s only competitive appearance for QPR this season came during their Carabao Cup defeat against Plymouth Argyle last month. He also came on as a substitute during the R’s pre-season friendly defeat at Oxford.

Last season, the winger turned out 12 times in the Championship but had previous loan spells at Colchester United and Port Vale. He has, however, had an injury-hit time at QPR, something which has hampered his progress.

Last summer, Shodipo signed a new deal which will keep him at Loftus Road until 2022.

What Was Said

Speaking to the clubs’ official website, Robinson said: “He is an exciting player to watch, very unpredictable but always a threat because he has so much pace and a willingness to take people on.

“We have spoken quite a lot about needing that extra bit of pace that can stretch games and we look forward to bringing him in and working with him over the coming season.”

Shodibo becomes the U’s 22nd senior player at the club, which is the maximum they can register in their squad.

One area of the pitch the U’s failed to bring in additional cover was in defence – an area that many supporters felt needed reinforcements after a slow start to the new season.
