Derby’s Sibley Wanted by Yorkshire Giants
According to Football Insider and subsequently, Derbyshire Live, the Yorkshire club want to sign the 19-year-old this week.
The club’s recruitment chief Victor Orta is understood to see the midfielder as a target for the Premier League side.
However, as of yet, no formal bid has been made for the England under-20 star. The domestic transfer window closes on Friday so any move would need to happen soon.
Academy Graduate Sibley Attracting Attention
At just 19 years-old, Sibley has shot into the limelight in the Championship after an impressive 2020.
He scored five goals in 11 appearances during the second half of last season and has cemented a place in Derby’s first team as a result.
Sibley has featured in all but one of the Rams matches this season. A muscle injury ruled him out of Phillip Cocu‘s side 1-0 win over Norwich City. The Dutchman told local media that his recovery could leave him sidelined for a number of weeks.
Leeds United Hoping Sibley Could End Midfielder Search
The Whites have been in the marker for a midfielder than can get forward all summer. A deal to sign Bayern Munich’s Michael Cuisance fell through at the last moment due to issues with his medical.
However, whether Sibley would be a good alternative remains to be seen. He’s played 22 times in total for Derby and a move to the Premier League with Leeds would certainly be a step up in terms of opposition.
What’s more, the Academy graduate, alongside fellow starlet Max Bird, signed a contract extension with the club just last month. They both penned new deals to keep them at the club until the summer of 2024.
