Cameron Jerome: Former Derby County and Norwich City Striker Signs for MK Dons

MK Dons have completed the signing of striker Cameron Jerome. The 34-year-old arrives at the club on a short-term contract to help boost the club’s forward options. The Dons have struggled to find the net this season in League One, with two of their three league goals coming from defenders.

MK Dons’ attacking force took a big hit in the summer when Rhys Healey left to join French side Toulouse. The former Cardiff City man had been the club’s top scorer in the 2019/20 season and, despite their lowly league position, was among the top scorers in the league.

Former loanee Carlton Morris re-joined the club on a season-long loan from Norwich City in the summer but is yet to get off the mark in the league – though his first of the season did arrive in the 3-2 EFL Trophy win over Stevenage.

Sam Nombe is yet to find the net either and went off injured in the success over Stevenage, while Joe Mason has largely failed to impress but did score in the 2-1 loss to Lincoln City.

Another emerging option is youngster Jay Bird. He spent most of last season out injured but scored a brace in the Stevenage win.

Jerome provides a different option to any of the Dons’ current strikers. Morris and Mason are, arguably, the best of the bunch, but are too similar in their playing styles to complement each other well. Meanwhile, Nombe and Bird are both still young and shouldn’t have the pressure of starting week-in-week-out on their shoulders.

The 34-year-old is a vastly-experienced player, particularly in the EFL, but he has also played in the Premier League.

After starting out at Middlesbrough, he moved onto Cardiff and Birmingham City, settling at the latter and making over 200 appearances for them.

After leaving the Blues, he played for Stoke City and Crystal Palace before going onto make nearly 150 outings for Norwich.

A short stint with Derby County was followed by two years abroad in Turkey with Goztepe, where he last played.
