Manchester United have announced the signing Alex Telles from Porto for a fee believed to be in the region of €15 million.
The deal had been at an impasse for over two weeks, but the 27-year old’s contract situation and willingness to move to Old Trafford is thought to have gotten the deal over the line.
Porto’s asking price for the defender was set at £22.5 million. However, with the Brazilian international open to negotiate with other clubs from January and sign a pre-contract agreement without a fee, a deal was reached late on.

Attacking Option
Telles’ attacking output is something Manchester United have missed sorely since the departure of Patrice Evra, making him a perfect option for the Red Devils. Plying his trade in the Primeira Liga, the Brazilian helped his side with 13 goals and 12 assists in all competitions, while also keeping 20 clean sheets.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been keen to improve the left-back position in his side before the deadline. Luke Shaw has struggled with injuries since arriving at Old Trafford in 2014 from Southampton and Brandon Williams is still finding his feet after a breakthrough season last term. The latter is also expected to head out on, with Sky Sports reporting that he could be heading to St Mary’s on loan.
Before the flurry of activity on deadline day, Solskjaer and fans alike were frustrated with the attempts to strengthen the squad, with Donny van de Beek from Ajax being the only arrival.
All Action at Old Trafford
United are still set to be busy this deadline day with free agent Edinson Cavani on the verge of joining. Furthermore, negotiations are still active between United and Barcelona for Ousmane Dembele.
Eighteen-year-old Penarol winger Facundo Pellestri is also undergoing a medical ahead of a move said to be in the region of £10 million-plus add-ons.
