Jan Zamburek Joins Shrewsbury Town on Loan From Brentford

Shrewsbury Town have strengthened their squad with the addition of Brentford midfielder Jan Zamburek on a season-long loan. The Czech Republic youth international has made 17 appearances for the Bees since his debut in 2018 but joins a Shrewsbury side who are one of two League One sides yet to win in order to gain some more first-team minutes.

Shrews in Need of Experience

Sam Ricketts’ side are widely tipped to go down this season. Based on the start to the season they’ve had, it’s easy to see why. Shrewsbury are one of two sides yet to win so far, the other being bottom side MK Dons. There is a suggestion that they have some solidity given that three of their four games have been draws, however.

While Zamburek isn’t likely to contribute too much to Shrewsbury’s offensive statistics, he can help ensure that solidity remains throughout the season, which might be enough to help them stave off the drop.

The 19-year-old joined the Brentford B set-up in 2018 from Slavia Prague and got his first call-up to the first team for a game against Hull City in 2019. With the score at 5-1, he made his debut as a substitute for Said Benrahma.

Zamburek has also been capped at U15, U16, U17, U18 and U19 level for the Czech Republic. He was also initially called up for a U20 friendly against Slovakia but was released from the squad prior to the game.

Manager Pleased With Addition

Speaking to the club website about Zamburek’s signing, manager Ricketts said: “Jan has done really, really well at Brentford. He got in and around their first team and has made a number of appearances for them. Brentford were top of the league for a lot of the season and just missed out on promotion.

“He’s a young player we were really keen to bring in. We had to fight off one of the biggest clubs in this league to secure his services. We are really pleased to have him in and we are looking forward to working with him.”
