Fulham have signed defender Joachim Andersen on a season-long loan from Ligue 1 side Lyon.
The 24-year-old joins the Cottagers after struggling in France. Scott Parker will be pleased to have bolstered his centre-back options following Andersen’s arrival.

Fulham Land Andersen
Andersen joins Fulham on loan for the 2020/21 season. There is also an option to buy at the end of his loan spell.
Lyon signed the 24-year-old from Sampdoria last summer for an estimated €24 million. However, despite making 32 appearances in all competitions last season, Andersen could not recapture his impressive form in Serie A.
Andersen only made 18 league appearances for Lyon last in 2019/20. He was largely an unused substitute prior to Ligue 1’s suspension in March. The Denmark international only started five out of 13 league games towards the end of the French domestic season.
Andersen has featured for Lyon this season. The 24-year-old played a part in their first three fixtures of the season. But, again, was named as an unused substitute for Lyon’s last three games.
Promising Signing for Fulham
Although he fell out of favour at Lyon, Fulham have taken advantage and signed a promising young defender to bolster their central defensive options.
Andersen has both European and international experience. He made his debut for Denmark in 2019 and also played in six of Lyon’s ten Champions League matches last season when they reached the semi-final of the competition.
Scott Parker will be delighted to have secured another defender. His side have conceded 11 goals in their first four Premier League matches. The Cottagers are also bottom of the table and have lost all four of their opening games.
After Alfie Mawson left for Bristol City on loan earlier in the window, Fulham have just three senior centre backs at the club. Andersen’s signing will hopefully provide some much-needed competition as Fulham aim to avoid relegation this season.
