Centre-Back Search

Jose Mourinho has been looking to add another centre-back to his squad after losing Jan Vertonghen to Benfica earlier in the window.

Tottenham have had several targets in mind throughout the summer, but Skriniar has been their main target throughout.

Talks had commenced earlier in the window, but agreeing a fee was proving to be a stumbling block.

However, according to The Evening Standard, Spurs are set to make another bid for the Slovakian before Monday’s transfer deadline.

The 25-year-old was a mainstay in Antonio Conte’s line-up last season, making 42 appearances in all competitions.

Should he join, Skriniar would become first-choice under Mourinho. The Portuguese is yet to settle on his preferred combination at the heart of defence, using no fewer than five different pairings so far this season.

Sessegnon Set to Depart on Loan

While Tottneham are looking to make two more additions before the transfer deadline – Benfica striker Carlos Vinicius is close to joining – there could also be a departure from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

According to Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports, Ryan Sessegnon is attracting interest from German club Hoffenheim.

The Bundesliga side are one of two sides looking to sign the 20-year-old on loan. Sessegnon has been linked with a move away this window after seeing his development come to a halt with Tottenham.

The versatile left-sided midfielder is likely to have fallen down the pecking order due to arrival of Gareth Bale in attack and Sergio Reguilon at left-back.
