Benfica have confirmed on their website that they have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for the transfer for Carlos Vinicius. The Portuguese side have informed the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) of the move, which will see Vinicius join Spurs on a loan deal worth €3 million. Spurs will then have the option to buy the Brazillian striker for €45 million at the end of the season and, if they do, the fee paid for the loan will be deducted.

No Problems

Benfica also say in their statement that the move is dependent on Vinicius obtaining a work permit. However, this is not expected to be an issue, as he played in European competitions last season.

Their statement read: “Sport Lisboa e Benfica – Futebol, SAD informed the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) that it reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for the loan of player Carlos Vinícius until the end of the 2020/21 sports season for an amount of 3 millions of euros.

“The said agreement, communicated at 11:56 pm on Thursday, includes a purchase option clause in the amount of 45 million euros, to which, if exercised, the amount paid for the loan will be deducted.

“The agreement is dependent on the signing of the striker’s sports work contract with Tottenham Hotspur.”

While the move could be completed and confirmed by Spurs before Sunday’s match against Manchester United, it won’t be in time to have him registered to play before the game.

Vinicius has been Jose Mourinho’s number one target all summer as they look to ease the load on Harry Kane at the top end of the pitch.

The 25-year-old scored 18 times in 32 matches for Benfica in the Primeira League last season and also notched once in five Champions League matches.
