REPORT: Dele Alli to Be Left Out of Tottenham Hotspur Squad for Chelsea Carabao Cup Clash

Dele Alli

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli is to be left out of tonight’s Carabao Cup match against London rivals Chelsea, according to Mike McGrath of The Telegraph.

The future of the England international continues to become more uncertain as the transfer window comes to a close.

Spurs manager Jose Mourinho himself admitted he may have to sacrifice one competition for the other.

“What would you do in my position? I would like to fight for the Carabao but I don’t think I can,” he told reporters.

“We have a game on Thursday that gives us not as much money as the Champions League, but the group phase of the Europa League gives us a certain amount that for a club like us is very important.”

This Season

Alli has only started once so far this season: in the spiritless defeat to Everton on the opening day, coming off at half-time. He also appeared as a substitute in the Europa League win against Shkendija. Recent developments appear that the English attacking midfielder has further dropped down manager Mourinho’s pecking order this season.

This development comes after Mourinho claimed his side couldn’t compete in both competitions, due to fixture congestion and that the likes of Alli, currently on the fringes, would be given opportunities. With key player Son Heung-min injured at the weekend, it was thought Alli would be an important part of the Mourinho’s plans especially during this cluster of games.

Move Away

The 24-year old will be looking for regular football with the rescheduled European Championships set to take place next summer. French champions Paris Saint Germain are said to be considering Alli, but the asking price from Daniel Levy and co is putting them off, whilst a loan move is said to be more convenient.

It is also reported that during discussions with Real Madrid for Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon, the midfielder was offered to the Spanish giants on loan, who instantly refused.

With the English transfer window closing on Monday, we are set to see where Dele Alli’s future lies.
