Borussia Dortmund cruised to a 5-0 victory against Duisburg in the DFB-Pokal. The young Dortmund squad were relentless with their possession in their opponent’s half and it resulted in a dominant performance. Among the goalscorers for the Bundesliga club was new signing Jude Bellingham. The England U21 player produced a fantastic performance in his first competitive fixture for Dortmund.
Jude Bellingham Scores in Borussia Dortmund Debut
A Fantastic Start
Bellingham couldn’t have asked for a better first appearance for Dortmund. Lucien Favre placed the 17-year-old in the starting XI against Duisburg and the young talent delivered for the club. His goal makes him the youngest goalscorer in club’s history since 1952 and there appears to be many more to come in Germany for Bellingham.
This match confirmed that Bellingham should be a regular part of Dortmund this season. After very good performances in the preseason friendlies, he was able to replicate his good form in the first competitive fixture of the season. He is going to be a valuable player for them throughout the 2020/21 season.
Marco Reus Shines in Return Match
In his first competitive match since February, Marco Reus was able to score in his return to action. The attacking midfielder recorded Dortmund’s fifth goal of the match after entering as a second-half substitute in the 57th minute. It was a step in the right direction for Reus returning to his normal role as one of the key goal contributors for Dortmund. Despite his recent injury set back, it appears he is in good form to start off the campaign.
Jadon Sancho Scores Amid Tranfer Speculation
As the transfer speculation continues to grow around the future of Jadon Sancho, the England international was able to produce a goal for Dortmund in the victory. He was a menace for Duisburg defensively and continued to turn in a great performance despite the uncertain future ahead. This was his 100th appearance for the club in all competitions and it marked yet another milestone in his terrific career at Dortmund.
All in all, it was a positive night for Dortmund as a debuting Bellingham aided victory alongside fellow goalscorers Marco Reus, Thorgan Hazard, Giovanni Reyna and Jadon Sancho. The aim will now be to prepare for an exciting Bundesliga season ahead and another fierce title race against the always improving Bayern Munich.
Whether that be with or without Jadon Sancho is yet to be confirmed, but, either way, with players like Bellingham at the helm, Dortmund look ready for the new campaign.
