Arsenal are preparing to sell Emiliano Martinez with Aston Villa eager to continue talks. They are expected to improve upon their initial £15 million offer, and try to negotiate a deal as soon as possible.
The 28-year-old recently rejected a new contract with the Gunners. Despite the revised contract including a significantly improved salary, Martinez has reportedly insisted that game-time is his priority. With a fee yet to be agreed, Arsenal value Martinez at £20 million.
The Independent are also reporting that the goalkeeper has agreed personal terms and a contract worth up to £60,000 per week with Aston Villa.

Brilliant End to the Season with Arsenal for Emiliano Martinez
Despite spending ten years at Arsenal, Martinez only really got an opportunity at the end of last season. The Argentine goalkeeper played and impressed in all 10 premier league games after Bernd Leno’s injury at Brighton.
He also played in every game in Arsenal’s FA Cup run, which saw the Gunners pick up the trophy for the 14th time. The 28-year-old goalkeeper was brilliant in Arsenal’s run in and his performances were rewarded with a majorly improved contract offer.
However, Martinez has been reluctant to take Arsenal up on their offer, as he is not promised first-team football for next season. The return of Bernd Leno would provide fierce competition and Mikel Arteta has opted to start the German in the past.
Martinez Wants Move
It is understood that Martinez has already agreed personal terms with Villa. According to the Independent, a four-year contract with a salary in the region of £60,000 a-week has been agreed. However, it will take some more time for the two clubs to determine a fee.
Despite Arteta’s desires of keeping the 28-year-old to fight for a starting place, the sale could help fund further arrivals. The funds for Martinez could be used in Arsenal’s pursuit of Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.
A move to Villa would provide Martinez with the chance to finally play the role of number one in the Premier League after years of warming the bench.
