Alphonse Areola

Upon their return to the premier league, Fulham are looking to sign PSG goalkeeper Alphonse Areola on a season-long loan, according to Sky Sports.

The newly-promoted side are hopeful that they can finalise a deal with the French international this week, so that he will be ready for Fulham’s opener with Arsenal on Saturday.

Fulham Hopeful of Signing PSG Goalkeeper Alphonse Areola

Alphonse Areola Spent Last Year Winning La Liga

Areola spent last season with Spanish giants Real Madrid, where they secured their 34th La Liga title. Areola made nine appearances for the club and commonly found himself as a unused substitute. Los Blancos opted to use former Chelsea man Thibaut Courtois in goal and Areola’s game-time predominantly came through cup competitions, as opposed to the league.

Despite his limited his limited playing time, Madrid were very complimentary of the Frenchman.

A statement on Real Madrid’s website last month said: “Real Madrid thanks PSG for the chance to have had Alphonse Davies Areola as part of our squad.

“The club would like to thank Areola for his dedication, professionalism and exemplary conduct this season. Everyone at the club wishes him the best of luck in this new chapter.”

Fulham Aim to Bring in Fifth Signing

The signing of Areola will be the West London club’s fifth signing this window. Both Harrison Reed and Anthony Knockaert saw their respective loan deals turn permanent this summer. Elsewhere, Fulham signed left-back Antonee Robinson from Wigan Athletic last month. The fee of just £2 million demonstrated the financial struggles the Latics are currently facing.

The Whites have also signed Southampton’s Mario Lemina on a season-long loan. Fulham will have the opportunity to make lemina’s deal permanent is he impresses during his loan spell.

A Move That Frees Up Marcus Bettinelli

The signing of Areola would put Marcus Bettinelli down the pecking order at Fulham. Championship outfit Middlesbrough are thought to be close to completing a deal for the Englishman. Neil Warnock is looking to add the shot-stopper on a season-long loan as he prepares his side for the season ahead.
