Newcastle United’s Move for Arsenal Defender Rob Holding Remains on Hold

What is the Issue?

It’s believed the Gunners are reluctant to let their centre-back go at this moment in time. Newcastle remain keen, but will only get their man if the club decides to bring in a replacement for Holding.

The Magpies have already made three signings this summer. They have brought in Burnley’s Jeff Hendrick, Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson and goalkeeper Mark Gillespie.

But the incomings at St. James’ Park aren’t over yet. The club is also in talks with Wilson’s former Bournemouth team-mate Ryan Fraser, as well as Norwich City full-back, Jamal Lewis.

Arsenal Are Well-Stocked in Defence

The signing of Gabriel Maghalhaes last week means that Arsenal currently have eight centre-back’s in their first-team. But, with Rob Holding currently staying foot at The Emirates, will the club let some of their defenders go?

Sokratis is believed to be one of the eight defenders who will leave North London, with Serie A side Napoli believed to be interested in taking him to Italy. Shkodran Mustafi and Calum Chambers have also been linked with a move away from the Emirates.

Rob Holding’s Arsenal Career Statistics

Rob Holding has been at the Emirates for four seasons, but injuries has meant that the defender has made only 79 appearances for the club.

Despite that, Holding featured often for the Gunners following the arrival of Mikel Arteta in the second half of last season, playing in six of their nine Premier League games after the restart.

The former Bolton Wanderers man also played in Arsenal’s FA Cup Final win over Chelsea, as well as the Community Shield win over Liverpool, putting in an impressive display in both.

With the move to Tyneside stalling, could Holding play a huge part for the Gunners this season?
