Monaco boss Niko Kovac has issued an update on Manchester United target Benoit Badiashile, insisting that he will remain with the club.
Monaco Boss Insists Benoit Badiashile Will Stay Despite Manchester United Interest
‘We Do Not Want to Sell’
Speaking to French media, Kovac insisted that Monaco do no want to sell the 19-year-old defender.
He said: “Our aim is to take him to the next level. If he plays a lot of matches with us in Ligue 1, which is a very good league, he will improve, that is certain. We do not want to sell him, that is very clear, he will stay here this season. I think that this is the best solution for him. He has his club here, his family. He knows the environment.”
Despite his young age, Badiashile has become a first-team regular at Monaco. The Frenchman has already made 48 appearances for the Ligue 1 side.
The 19-year-old has attracted attention from several clubs across Europe due to his calm presence on the ball. Last season saw him make an average of 58.4 passes per game; in doing so, he reached an impressive pass completion rate of 85.4%.
Badiashile has featured in both of Monaco’s Ligue 1 games so far this season.
Why Do Manchester United Want to Sign Him?
The 19-year-old, should he join Manchester United, would be one for the future at Old Trafford.
Despite being highly-rated, the Premier League is not an easy league to adjust to, especially in the pressurising environment of Old Trafford. As a result, he would be eased over time, and not thrown straight into the line-up.
Furthermore, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof seem to have the starting places nailed down at the heart of defence. As a result, it would be hard for them to be displaced; instead, Badiashile would likely be alternated with Lindelof.
