Competition for Places

The 23-year-old will provide competition to the current crop of goalkeepers in the Shrewsbury squad.

Manager Sam Ricketts currently has just two goalkeepers in his squad currently following the release of Joe Murphy. However, neither Harry Burgoyne or Cameron Gregory made an appearance last season.

As a result, Ricketts is looking to replace the hole left by Max O’Leary, who became first-choice after joining on loan from Championship club Bristol City.

Sarkic joined Wolves earlier this summer after being released by Midlands rivals Aston Villa. The Premier League side rate the Montenegro international highly, but want him to continue his development out on loan.

The 23-year-old played a game for the Aston Villa first-team during his time with the club. Instead, he spent much of his time out on loan, enjoying loan spells with Wigan Athletic, Livingston as well as in non-league.

What Was Said?

Speaking about his new signing to the official Shrewsbury Town website, manager Sam Ricketts said: “He’s a very good, young keeper who did really well last year at Livingston. We’re delighted to have him here at the club. He’s a really good prospect, Brian Jensen and myself are really looking forward to working with him and he’s a great addition to the team.”

The 23-year-old is the fifth player to join Shrewsbury this window. The club have already confirmed the permanent arrivals of Rekeil Pyke and Josh Daniels, while Marlon Fossey and Scott High before join on loan.

Sam Ricketts’ side will be hope to better their 2019/20 finishing position of 15th in the forthcoming campaign. The Shrews travel to Portsmouth on the opening day of the season.
