Callum Morton is expected to sign a new deal with West Bromwich Albion before joining Lincoln City on loan, according to Steve Madeley of The Athletic.
Callum Morton to Join Lincoln City on Loan
Rewarded With New Deal
The 20-year-old has been rewarded with a new four-year deal at The Hawthorns after an excellent loan spell with Northampton Town.
He was in prolific form for the Cobblers last season, registering eight goals in 12 appearances. Morton caught the eye in their play-off semi against Cheltenham Town, scoring two goals as Northampton came from behind to defeat the Robins.
It was his first loan in the EFL after a short-term loan with non-league club Braintree Town.
As a result, he is now looking to make the next step in his career and jump up to League One.
According to the Northampton Chronicle, the Cobblers were interested in seeing Morton return. However, it now looks like the 20-year-old will be heading to the LNER Stadium on a season-long loan.
When speaking about the Imps’ interest in Morton and his team-mate Alex Palmer, who has also been linked, Lincoln boss Michael Appleton admitted it would be difficult to turn down.
He said to Lincolnshire Live: “Again it would be hard to say no.
“I think there’s going to be numerous clubs as well, similar to Alex where they’re going to try to acquire their services.
“Hopefully my relationship with West Brom and knowing the players personally will give us a decent opportunity to try and get them.”
Need for a Striker
The Imps are keen to secure a striker ahead of the forthcoming season as they look to climb up the League One table.
Last season’s top scorer Tyler Walker has not returned, and it does not appear that fellow loanee Tyreece John-Jules will return either.
As a result, the leaves Appleton with just two available strikers heading into the season.
